Ingredients
Chicken-300gms
Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
Onion-1 small size,chopped
Tomato(optional)-1,chopped
Curry leaves-few
Coriander powder-2 tbsp
Turmeric powder-a pinch
Grated coconut-3 tbsp
Bay leaf-1
Salt-to taste
Water-2 1/2 cups
Oil-3 tbsp
To saute and grind
Shallots-15,chopped
Garlic-5
Ginger-2 inch piece
Cloves-6
Cinnamon-1 inch piece
Fennel-1/2 tsp
Cumin/jeera-1 tbsp
Black pepper-1 tsp
Red chilli-3
Fried gram/pottukadalai(optional)-1 tsp
Method
Clean and cut the chicken into medium size pieces.set aside
In a pan,heat a tbsp of oil and add the items listed in the table'to saute and grind'.saute it until the raw smell of the ingredients leaves. switch off the flame and add coriander powder , coconut and mix it well.
Once it is completely cool,grind it to a fine paste.
In a pressure cooker,heat the remaining oil.add mustard seeds,when splutter add bay leaves,onion,curry leaves and saute for a minute.then add tomato and let it turn mushy.Now add chicken and turmeric and stir it for few minutes.
Then add the grinded paste with 2 1/2 cups of water and required salt.let it boil.close the lid and pressure cook it for 4-5 whistles.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with rice,idli,dosa,chapati.
Notes
Adjust spiciness to your taste.
You can also add a tsp of poppy seeds and few curry leaves to saute and grind.
If you want little thick consistency,add pottukadalai,otherwise omit it.
